After researching informational texts on modern and historical revolutions, write an essay that compares a modern revolution to the French revolution and argues the significance of each. Mikayla Hammers World Studies Revolutions essay March 11, 2014 The French revolution and the Arab Spring revolution are comparable and both play significant roles. Many aspects of the revolutions from the causes to aftermath in the Middle East can resemble those that happened in France. All of which plays significant roles in people gaining rights, freedom, and respect. The first stage of a revolution is the political, social, intellectual, or economic causes or reasons why people want change. After separating themselves from the monarchy they stormed the Bastille in case of war and had a night of speeches where they focused on liberty, equality, and fraternity. The National Assembly even wrote the â€Å"Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizens.† Both revolutions have dealt with the symptoms phase somewhat differently but both have gotten or are getting responses. The third stag e of the revolution is known as the crisis. This is where conflict happens between sides for or against the revolution. Revolutions can sometimes fail during this period. Riots can get very aggressive during this time and there may also be wars. Some places in the Middle East like Yemen have resorted to things like tear gas to fight the protesters. Some governments used rubber bullets and others fired live rounds. However, in France a war was declared by the legislative assembly in 1792. The Egyptian people kicked their president, Hosni Mubarak, out of power. Although France did not kick anyone out, both revolutions have executed people during this phase. Muammar al-Gaddafi, ruler of Libya, was pulled out of a tunnel system and was shot and killed. The French revolutionaries beheaded King Louis XVI and his wife, Queen Marie Antoinette, using a guillotine. Something different that the French did was create many new governments.
